STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team (13-30, 5-17) started off its final home series of the year with an extra-innings loss to BYU (21-26, 10-12). The Cougars took a 13-inning 11-8 win.
Graduate
Jeremy Lea led the team with three hits. Junior
Jacob Weiss drove in three runs with a home run. Junior
Chaz Myers hit a home run and had a double while driving in two runs and scoring twice.
Senior
Grant Stevens started the game and pitched 6.1 innings with a season-high 10 strikeouts to only three walks. Sophomore
Owen McWilliam struck out five in 2.2 innings pitched. Senior
Tyler Stout pitched 3.0 innings with four strikeouts.
BYU took an early 5-0 lead in the second inning with a two-run single and a three-run home run. Freshman
Jack Metcho got the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single.
Pacific added three more in the bottom of the third, as Lea grounded out to shortstop to bring in one, and Weiss homered to left to make it a one-run game. BYU scored once in the fourth and once in the fifth to extend the lead to three.
A Weiss single in the fifth brought in one more run for the Tigers. Metcho scored on a throwing error before Myers homered to give Pacific its first lead in the sixth inning. BYU tied the game in the top of the ninth inning with a double down the right-field line.
BYU scored three times in the top of the thirteenth to take the game one win.
Pacific is back in action tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Klein Family Field.
