Softball Opens Conference Play, Drops Doubleheader to LMU

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team dropped a pair of contests Friday afternoon, falling to LMU, 2-1 and 4-1 in a West Coast Conference doubleheader at Bill Simoni Field.

"I thought we did a great job competing," Head Coach Brian Kolze said after the doubleheader. "Our pitchers threw well enough to keep us in these games, but we still have to hit better and score more runs."

LMU 2, Pacific 1

Scarlett Lloyd paced the Tigers (9-17, 0-2) throughout the game, throwing her first seven-inning complete game. Lloyd kept the opposition in check for most of the game, holding the Lions (16-16, 2-0) to their lowest hit total of the season. Llyod finished her best outing with a season-high five strikeouts, only allowing two earned runs on two hits.

Trailing 1-0 after the first two innings of play, the Tigers evened the scoring in the fourth inning on a Rian Dirmeyer RBI single. Delaney Scully led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on an Allie Capello sacrifice bunt. Dirmeyer followed with her 11th RBI of the season, a single down the right field line, tying the game at one.

The Tigers fell behind in the top half of the seventh inning when the Lions secured the win on a sacrifice fly.

LMU 4, Pacific 1

The Tigers jumped ahead early, securing an early 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning. Dirmeyer once again provided the Tigers with offense as she punched an RBI single through the middle of the infield, scoring Carly Lucchetti from second base.

The Lions responded in the top half of the fifth inning, scoring four unanswered runs to secure the win and keeping the Tigers scoreless through the game's final six innings.

Pacific returns to action at noon on Saturday, April 8, as it takes on LMU in the final game of the three-game set at Bill Simoni Field.
