Gonzaga Scores Late to Down Tigers

SPOKANE, Wash. - Pacific baseball (13-27, 5-15) fell in game number two against Gonzaga (16-24, 12-8). The Zags scored three runs late to take a 4-3 win over the Tigers.

Graduate Ben Nemivant, freshman Jake Tandy and junior Chaz Myers all grabbed two hits in the game. Nemivant drove in a run along with freshmen Caden Casagrande and Jack Metcho. Tandy had the only Tiger extra-base hit, a double.

Sophomore Caden Duke started the game and pitched 4.0 innings of one-hit baseball, allowing one run while striking out two. Sophomore Jarryd Wood and senior Tyler Stout both pitched multiple innings in relief.

A wild pitch brought in the game's first run, as Gonzaga took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The Tigers would do all their scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Casagrande would put Pacific on the board after two singles led off the inning. A sac bunt would put two runners in scoring position, and Casagrande would put a ball in play to tie the game up. Metcho would ground out to bring in the second run before a Nemivant single would bring in Casagrande to give Pacific a 3-1 lead.

Gonzaga would re-take the lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs on three hits and a wild pitch.

The two teams wrap up the series tomorrow. The first pitch will be at noon.
