MORAGA, Calif. – Pacific baseball (10-22, 3-11) fell to Saint Mary's (13-17, 8-6) in a high-scoring Saturday afternoon game. The Gaels scored six times in the fifth to fuel a 13-4 finish.
Graduate
Ben Nemivant led the team with three hits and added an RBI. Graduate
Jeremy Lea had two RBI and one hit. Junior
Chase Graves, along with freshmen
Jack Metcho and
Peyton Miller, all had one hit. Graves drove in one.
Senior
Marvcus Guarin started the game, pitched 4.0 innings with seven strikeouts, and allowed just five hits. As a staff, the Tigers struck out ten while walking just nine batters.
Saint Mary's got the scoring started early, with one run in the first and two in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. The Gaels added one more in the fourth to reach a 4-0 Saint Mary's lead heading into the fifth.
Graves started the scoring for the Tigers in the fifth with an RBI single through the left side to bring in Metcho. Lea followed up with a two-RBI triple, bringing in Graves and Nemivant.
It would not stay a one-score game for long, as the Gaels put up six runs on five hits and one error in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-3 lead they would not relinquish. Saint Mary's would score once more in the sixth and twice in the seventh to take a ten-run lead.
Nemivant added one back in the ninth with an RBI groundout.
The two teams wrap up the series tomorrow. The first pitch will be at 1 p.m.
