STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team earned its second straight win, defeating Fresno State, 3-1, Wednesday evening at Bill Simoni Field.
"I was proud how we came out and swung the bats and kept the momentum," Head Coach
Brian Kolze said after the game. "Vanessa [Strong] kept pounding the zone, and we played great defense."
Carly Lucchetti led the Tigers (5-12) offensively, as the team compiled eight hits throughout the contest. Lucchetti recorded two hits in three at-bats, the lone team member registering a multi-hit game. The graduate student from Linden, Calif., added two RBI on the night, an infield single to open the scoring in the first inning and a solo home run over the right-center field fence in the fifth inning to solidify the victory.
Reagan Hamilton extended the lead in the first inning as she sent a two-out solo homerun over the left-field fence, giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.
Kyla Eck,
Allie Capello,
Jordan Hayes,
Rian Dirmeyer, and
Asia Lee also gave the Tigers hits during the game.
The Bulldogs (7-11) knocked in their only run of the game in the top half of the seventh inning on an RBI groundout from Jamie Hicks.
A solid performance from
Vanessa Strong in the circle helped propel the Tigers defensively, as she pitched seven innings, allowing only one run on five hits. Strong's outing marked the first time she earned a win while pitching a seven-inning complete game in her career.
Due to inclement weather in Northern California, Pacific's weekend home series against CSU Bakersfield has been moved to Bakersfield. The Tigers will play on the road in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 12, at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.
