Softball Earns Doubleheader Split at CSU Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Pacific softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at CSU Bakersfield Saturday afternoon at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.

"Even though we split, I thought we did some good things," Head Coach Brian Kolze said after the game. "We played excellent defense throughout, and our pitchers pounded the zone and didn't walk anyone."

Pacific 6, CSU Bakersfield 1

Carly Lucchetti led the Tigers (6-13) offensively throughout the contest, tallying two hits in three at-bats and registering a game-high three RBI.

With the team leading 1-0 after the game's opening inning, Lucchetti recorded a two-RBI single in the second inning, scoring Jordan Hayes and Kyla Eck, giving the Tigers a commanding 3-0 advantage. The graduate student from Linden, Calif., provided the team with another RBI single, a knock in the fourth inning to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.

Rian Dirmeyer knocked in the Tigers' final game run, an RBI base hit in the top half of the seventh inning.

Vanessa Strong, earning the start in the circle, put together another stellar performance. Earning the win for the second consecutive start, Strong pitched six innings, allowing three hits and no runs. Lowering her earned-run average to 3.28, Strong tied a season-high with five strikeouts.

CSU Bakersfield 5, Pacific 2

Despite the Tigers gaining an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning, the Roadrunners (5-18) scored four unanswered runs to take a 4-1 lead in the bottom half of the opening inning.

Eck provided the Tigers with two hits in four at-bats, her third multi-hit game in the last four games. Increasing her hitting streak to four games, Eck leads the Tigers with a .372 batting average.

Dirmeyer also gave the team two hits, while Desiree Smith and Talissa Montez rounded out the Tigers' offense with one hit apiece.

In relief of starting pitcher Amiyah Aponte, Hannah Glad pitched five innings, allowing only one run on three hits, and picked up one strikeout.

Pacific returns to action on Tuesday, March 14, as it hosts Maine in a non-conference doubleheader at Bill Simoni Field.
