Softball Defeats Niagara on Final Day of Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament

HONOLULU, Hawaii — The Pacific softball team wrapped the Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament with a win, defeating Niagara, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

"This win was a good way to end the weekend," Head Coach Brian Kolze said. "I was proud of how we clutched up late in the game to score some runs."

The Tigers (4-12) accumulated seven hits throughout the contest, with Kyla Eck and Reagan Hamilton combining for five. Eck led the team with three hits, her third multi-hit game of the season. Hamilton also gave the Tigers offense, tallying two singles in three at-bats.

After the Purple Eagles (2-7) took an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the third inning, the Tigers scored three unanswered runs in the following two innings to secure the victory.

The Tigers plated the tying and go-ahead runs in the fourth inning, with Rian Dirmeyer starting the rally, reaching on a fielding error. Making her way around the bases in part to a Marissa Fabian one-out double, Dirmeyer scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

The Tigers quickly jumped ahead 2-1 as Fabian scored on an RBI single off the bat of Eck later in the inning.

Dirmeyer added an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning as Allie Capello scored the Tigers' third and final run.

Scarlett Lloyd earned the start in the circle and pitched five strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits and recording four strikeouts. Avery Croxall finished the game's final two innings and pitched a shutout, allowing only one baserunner to earn her second save of the season.

Pacific returns to action at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, as it takes on Fresno State in a non-conference contest at Bill Simoni Field.
