Pacific Baseball Locks up First Series Win with Second Straight Win

Sophomore Jacob Weiss Hits Two Home Runs in the Win

LAS CRUCES, NM – The Pacific baseball team (3-6) won its second straight game against New Mexico State (0-9) in ten innings as Pacific scored in the tenth to take the 4-3 win.

Graduate Ben Nemivant collected three hits and scored one run. Freshman Rylan Evans and sophomore Jacob Weiss collected two hits. Weiss and graduate Jeremy Lea drove in all four runs for the Tigers. Weiss also scored twice.

Freshman Cooper Lanz started the game and pitched 5.0 innings of one-run ball, striking out five Aggies and allowing only two hits. Senior Tyler Stout recorded the win, allowing one run in 2.0 innings pitched. Sophomore Caden Duke picked up his second straight save.

Nemivant and Evans led the game off with back-to-back singles. Junior Chaz Myers moved the runners over on a sacrifice bunt, and with two runners in scoring position, Lea cracked a single to center and brought both runs home for an early lead.

A wild pitch scored the first Aggie run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, but two strikeouts kept New Mexico State from evening the score.

Weiss hit the first Tiger home run of the season in the top of the second, a leadoff shot down the left field line to put the lead back up to two for Pacific. The two pitching staffs locked in after the home run, as the game was scoreless until the seventh inning, and neither team allowed more than two runners to reach during the stretch.

A throwing error in the seventh inning brought home another run for New Mexico State, and a home run in the ninth tied the game and sent the game into extra innings.

Weiss continued his incredible game, leading off the tenth inning with his second home run to give Pacific the lead. Duke allowed one baserunner in the bottom of the tenth but induced a flyout to secure the win.

Pacific wraps up the series tomorrow at 10 a.m. against New Mexico State.
