LAS CRUCES, NM – The Pacific baseball team (4-6) completed its first sweep of the year over New Mexico State (0-10) with a 13-4 victory Sunday morning.
"We played a complete weekend of baseball," said Head Coach
Chris Rodriguez. The pitching was able to execute multiple pitches for strikes and did a great job minimizing free passes this weekend."
Graduate
Ben Nemivant had a career day at the plate, going 6-6 with six RBI and a three-run home run. Graduate
Jeremy Lea had two hits and two RBI. Freshman
Andrew Sloan and junior
Chase Graves both tallied three hits, and Sloan scored three runs.
Freshman
Jacob Smith started the game and pitched 4.1 innings of no-hit baseball, striking out three batters. Graduate
Michael Defelippi recorded the win in his 1.0 inning of work. Freshmen
Ryan Martinez and
Caden Casagrande both picked up a strikeout in their 2.0 innings of work.
"We got solid starts from Stevens, Lanz, and Smith, plus the bullpen lead by Duke, Guarin and Ertz made some big pitches when needed," continued Rodriguez. "The defense was solid all weekend too. The offense did a great job staying with their approach and had success. Big weekends by both Weiss and Nemivant that sparked the offense."
Pacific got the scoring started immediately, as Lea brought Nemivant in with an RBI groundout. An RBI double from freshman

Jacob Weiss put Pacific up 3-0 after one inning.
Nemivant took the game into his hands, hitting his first home run in the top of the fourth, a three-run bomb to right field and followed that up with an RBI infield single in the top of the fifth to put Pacific up 7-0 halfway through the game.
The Aggies did not fade away, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a game that could be tied in one swing. Nemivant continued his tear, driving in a run in the top of the seventh inning, which kicked off a five-run inning for the Tigers. Freshman
Rylan Evans brought in the second run of the inning with a single to right field. A sacrifice fly and an RBI double from Lea added two more runs before Miller wrapped up the scoring with a single to center field.
Nemivant drove in his sixth run of the game in the top of the eighth inning with a double down the left-field line. New Mexico State homered in the bottom of the eighth but could not add more runs as Pacific completed the sweep.
