Pacific Holds Off Late San Francisco Rally to Take a Friday Night Win

STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific baseball (9-14, 2-5) opened the weekend with a win over San Francisco (10-11, 1-6). Pacific scored six runs between the sixth and seventh innings to take the lead and ultimately win the game, 9-7.

Graduate Ben Nemivant continues to lead the Tigers, collecting two hits and driving in three runs. Six Tigers' had two hits, and graduate Jeremy Lea hit a solo home run. Freshman Peyton Miller drove in two runs, and freshman Tony Otis scored three times.

Senior Grant Stevens started the game and pitched a gem in his third win of the season. The lefty threw 7.0 innings with six strikeouts and only three walks. Senior Tyler Stout and sophomore Caden Duke both pitched 1.0 inning in relief, with Duke picking up his fourth save of the season.

Lea started the scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning. The ball went straight over the foul pole and was initially called foul before an umpires discussion changed the call to a home run.

San Francisco took its first lead of the game in the third inning, scoring three runs on four hits and a solo home run. Pacific answered in the bottom of the fourth inning, with a double from junior Chaz Myers cutting the Dons' lead to just one.

The Tigers tied the game in the fifth on a Nemivant single before taking the lead for good in the sixth inning with a three-run inning that was highlighted by Miller's two-RBI single to left field on a ball the fielder dove for and had it bounce out of his glove.

Pacific would score three more times in the seventh, junior John-Howard Bobo would get the scoring started on a single to right center before Nemivant ripped a double down the right-field line to take a 9-3 lead for Pacific.

San Francisco would not fade quietly into the night, scoring twice in the eighth and twice in the ninth to make it a two-run game. Duke entered the game with the bases loaded and no one out and recorded three outs, including striking out the last batter for an emphatic win to start the series.

Pacific and San Francisco are back at it tomorrow. The first pitch will be at 3 p.m.
