STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific baseball (9-15, 2-5) could not get the bats going against San Francisco (11-11, 2-5) on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Dons 14-0.
Graduate
Ben Nemivant and freshman
Rylan Evans both had two hits, while freshmen
Tony Otis and
Jack Metcho both added one.
Senior
Marvcus Guarin started the game on the mound and pitched 6.0 innings with four strikeouts, allowing just three runs on 95 pitches. Sophomore
Owen McWilliam pitched 1.2 innings in relief with one strikeout and one earned run allowed. Of the 14 runs the Pacific pitching staff gave up, only eight were earned.
The game started slow, with the Tigers threatening in the first inning, but a double play and a groundout spoiled a potential big inning for Pacific, who had three runners reach in the inning. A San Francisco triple to open the third put the Dons in a great position to score on a sac fly two batters later.
A second sac fly in the top of the fourth brought in the second run, but Guarin stranded two Dons runners in the inning. A solo home run in the top of the sixth extended the San Francisco lead to three.
USF added four runs in the seventh and seven in the ninth to reach the final score of 14-0.
The two teams face off tomorrow to decide the series. The first pitch will be at 1 p.m.
