Pacific Falls to Portland Sunday Afternoon

STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific baseball (7-14, 1-5) fell in a low-scoring affair Sunday afternoon to Portland (16-7, 6-0). The Tigers scored in the first inning but were blanked for the rest of the game, falling 5-1.

Freshman Rylan Evans led the squad with two hits. Junior Chase Graves drove in the only run. Graduate Ben Nemivant and junior John-Howard Bobo both drew walks. Nemivant scored a run.

Senior Marvcus Guarin got the start and pitched 5.2 innings with five strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore Caden Duke pitched the final 3.1 innings with two walks and one hit allowed.

Pacific put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning. A Nemivant walk and a Miller single set up the Tigers with two runners on and nobody out. Graves drove a ball to deep left field, which drove in Nemivant.

It was all Portland after that, with the Pilots scoring three runs in the top of the third on four hits and one Tiger error.

The Pilots added one more run in the fourth and sixth innings, bringing the final to 5-1.

A team known for hitting, Portlands' pitching staff shut down a potent Pacific offense, limiting the Tigers to just four hits after the fourth inning.

Pacific travels to Nevada tomorrow for an early Monday game. The first pitch will be at 1 p.m.
