STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team (7-13, 1-4) kept it close with the conference's top team Portland (15-7, 5-0), early but could not keep up with the potent Pilots offense late, falling 14-5.
Four different Tigers had two hits, three freshmen:
Rylan Evans,
Jack Metcho,
Peyton Miller, and junior
Chase Graves. Graves and graduate
Jeremy Lea both hit home runs, and Graves drove in two runs.
Senior
Grant Stevens started on the hill and pitched 6.0 innings with two strikeouts and seven runs allowed. Senior
Tyler Stout struck out three in 2.0 innings, and senior
Jackson Ertz continued to lower his ERA with 1.0 scoreless inning.
The Pilots got on the board early, scoring four times in the first inning and adding two more in the top of the third with a two-run home run to left center.
Pacific got on the board in the third with an RBI single from graduate
Ben Nemivant. A rocket line drive that was caught in left from Miller in the next at-bat brought in junior
John-Howard Bobo and cut the Pilot lead to four.
The fireworks started for the Tigers in the fifth, as Graves and Lea hit back-to-back home runs on back-to-back pitches to make it a one-run game. Pacific could not bring the tying run home, as after a Portland pitching change, the Tigers recorded two groundouts.
Portland added one in the sixth before laying in on in the seventh inning, scoring seven runs to extend the lead to nine for Portland.
Pacific wraps up the series tomorrow. The first pitch will be at 1 p.m.
SCHEDULE CHANGE NOTE:
Pacific and Nevada have agreed to move Tuesday's game, which was initially a 6:05 p.m. start to Monday, March 26, at 1 p.m.
