SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Pacific softball team dropped a narrow 6-5 non-conference decision to San Jose State Wednesday afternoon at the Spartan Softball Stadium.
"We battled today," Head Coach
Brian Kolze said after the game. "It was a tough way to lose, but many positive things came out of it."
Carly Lucchetti and
Allie Capello shined for the Tigers (8-14) throughout the contest, combining for four hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Lucchetti, recording her team-leading eighth multi-hit game of the season, finished the game with two hits and a team-high two runs. Capello was perfect at the plate, going two-for-two with a walk, two RBI, and one run scored.
Delaney Scully and Capello gave the Tigers an early advantage in the game's opening inning, recording RBI hits to provide the team with a 2-0 lead. Scully kicked off the scoring with a single through the middle of the infield, scoring Lucchetti, and then later plated the second run on a Capello RBI double to center field.
The Spartans (13-15) bounced back the following inning, scoring three runs to grab a 3-2 advantage. With one out and a runner in scoring position, the Spartans recorded three straight hits, breaking through the Tiger defense to take their first lead of the game.
The Tigers quickly regained an edge in the fourth inning as Capello plated the go-ahead run on an
Emma Dazell sacrifice fly.
The two teams traded runs in the fifth and sixth innings as the game was tied heading into the final frame. The Spartans walked the game off in the bottom half of the seventh inning, coming out on top with a 6-5 victory in part to two Tiger throwing errors.
Pacific returns to action on Saturday, March 25, as it hosts Sacramento State in a non-conference doubleheader at Bill Simoni Field.
