BAKERSFIELD, Calif.: Pacific (7-11, 1-2) took on CSU Bakersfield (8-11, 0-3) in a Monday afternoon contest. The Roadrunners scored four runs in the fifth inning en route to a 12-6 win.
Graduate Ben Nemivant is allergic to getting out. Nemivant is fourth in the country in batting average and first in the WCC. In his first game at DH this season, he had three hits and four RBI in four at-bats. Junior John-Howard Bobo went 3-3 and scored three runs. Freshman Rylan Evans got two hits, and junior Chase Graves drove in a run.
Freshman Ryan Martinez started the game and pitched 2.0 innings, allowing two runs and striking out one. Sophomore Caden Duke struck out three in 2.0 innings pitched while allowing two runs.
Pacific started the scoring early, as Graves brought freshman Peyton Miller home on an RBI single to center. CSU Bakersfield responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to take an early lead.
Nemivant tied the game with a double to right center in the third inning, bringing Bobo home to score. The Tigers had a runner on second with no outs but could not take the lead in the inning. A second Roadrunner home run in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead by one run for CSU Bakersfield.
Pacific tied the game again in the top of the fourth on a fielding error by CSU Bakersfield as the game continued to be a tightly contested battle. The Roadrunners would retake the lead for good in the middle innings, scoring once in the four and four times in the fifth to take an 8-3 lead.
Nemivant cut into the lead in the sixth inning, driving in two more runs with his second double of the game. The Roadrunners responded, scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth and once in the bottom of the seventh.
Nemivant drove in his fourth run of the game in the top of the eighth inning, bringing in Bobo with a two-out single to right field. The Tigers had two runners on in the inning but could not bring home more runs. The Roadrunners added one more run in the bottom of the inning to reach the final score.
Pacific is back home this weekend, hosting Portland in a three-game homestand.
