Tigers Stunned by Late Torero Rally

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Pacific (6-10, 0-2) could not keep an early lead as San Diego (7-8-1, 2-0) stormed back late to take a 16-9 win.

Junior Chase Graves went 5-6 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI. Graduate Ben Nemivant added four hits with two doubles and two RBI. Freshman Peyton Miller collected three hits.

Senior Marvcus Guarin started the game, pitched 3.0 innings with four strikeouts, and only allowed one run. Senior Tyler Stout pitched 2.2 innings in relief, striking out two and allowing four runs. Seniors Michael Defelippi and Jackson Ertz both had scoreless outings.

Freshman Rylan Evans and junior Jacob Weiss started the scoring early for the Tigers. Evans hit a sac fly to bring home Nemivant. Weiss then doubled to right center bringing in two more runs. A solo home run for San Diego took the zero off the board in the bottom of the inning, but Pacific maintained its lead.

Nemivant doubled in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 5-1 Pacific. A second Evans sac fly brought in one more run. San Diego again scored once in the bottom of the inning but could not put together more of a rally.

Pacific added two more runs in the sixth inning. Miller singled up the middle, and Graves singled to third base to extend the Pacific lead to six. San Diego finally put a rally together in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs and making it an 8-6 game.

It was all San Diego in the eighth, scoring ten runs and taking a commanding 16-8 lead. Graves added one back for the Tigers in the ninth, but there were not enough outs left for the Tigers to make a comeback.

Pacific wraps up the series tomorrow. The first pitch will be at 1:00 p.m.
