Softball Downs Dartmouth, Earns Doubleheader Sweep

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team earned two wins over Dartmouth Thursday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Bill Simoni Field.

"Our pitchers did an excellent job pounding the strike zone," Head Coach Brian Kolze said. "We hit well in the first game, but we'll take the victory if it entails plating all the runs with home runs."

Pacific 7, Dartmouth 1

The Tigers (8-13) jumped all over the Big Green (3-9) in the first game of the doubleheader, scoring runs in four of the first five innings. Carly Lucchetti and Allie Capello led the team offensively throughout the contest, combining for three hits, two runs, and six RBI.

Lucchetti registered two hits in three at-bats and provided the Tigers with the game's opening run, a one-out solo home run over the right field fence. After the Big Green tied the game at one in the top half of the second inning, Lucchetti put the Tigers back on top in the bottom half, 3-1, with a two-RBI double to center field.

Capello extended the Tigers' lead to 6-1 in the bottom half of the fourth inning with a bases-clearing three-RBI double to center field.

Nina Davis added a solo home run in the fifth inning, her second career long ball, to solidify the win for the Tigers.

Vanessa Strong shut down the Big Green in a solid six-inning performance, earning the start in the circle for the seventh time this season. Strong allowed only one run on four hits and tied a career-high in strikeouts, fanning eight batters throughout her outing.

Pacific 3, Dartmouth 1

The Tigers recorded two home runs for the second-straight game as Rian Dirmeyer, and Kyla Eck propelled the team offensively. After three scoreless innings, Dirmeyer broke the tie and put the Tigers on top with her second home run of the season, a two-run blast over the right-field fence.

After the Big Green cut the deficit in half in the fifth inning, Eck put the Tigers up 3-1 in the bottom half with her first career home run, a solo shot to right field.

Scarlett Lloyd pitched four innings of three-hit ball and struck out four batters, while Avery Croxall pitched the final two innings and collected her team-leading third save of the season.

Pacific returns to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, as it travels to take on San Jose State at the Spartan Softball Stadium.
