Pacific Falls to CSUN in Rain Shortened Game

STOCKTON, Calif. – In a rain-shortened game, the CSUN Matadors (8-3) evened up the series against Pacific (5-8). The game was called after five innings due to the downpour that enveloped Klein Family Field, with CSUN up 2-1.

What was supposed to be a doubleheader turned into a single, five-inning game. The second game of the day has been pushed back to tomorrow, Sunday, March 12, with a noon start time.

In a rainy affair, the Tigers only picked up two hits, one from graduate Ben Nemivant and one from graduate Jeremy Lea. Senior Chaz Myers drove in the Tigers' only run.

Senior Marvcus Guarin started the game and pitched 3.2 innings with two strikeouts and one walk. Sophomore Caden Duke pitched 1.1 innings in relief, striking out two Matador batters.

CSUN started the scoring in the top of the first, as an RBI groundout put the Matadors up by one. In the bottom of the first, Nemivant singled to start the game and took second after forcing a balk. Nemivant moved to third on a groundout and came around to score as Myers grounded out to tie the game.

CSUN took the lead in the top of the fourth as a 10-pitch walk with two outs gave the Matadors life. A triple followed the walk and put CSUN in front. Pacific had a chance in the bottom of the fifth with two runners on and two outs. Freshman Rylan Evans smoked a ball up the middle, which a diving second baseman grabbed to end the inning.

Lightning was spotted three batters into the sixth inning. The game was initially postponed 30 minutes for lightning, but during the delay, the downpour started and was intense enough to call the game after five innings.
