RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Pacific softball team, competing on the second day of the CBU Classic, dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Colorado State Saturday afternoon at Jim C. Funk Stadium.
Colorado State 4, Pacific 2
The Tigers (1-7) fell behind in the fourth inning as a two-run home run off the bat of Peyton Allen gave the Rams (6-4) a 2-0 lead.
Delaney Scully cut the deficit to one in the bottom half of the fourth inning with an RBI triple to right field, scoring Rian Dirmeyer. An error from the catcher scored Scully shortly after, tying the game at two.
The Rams responded with two more runs in the fifth inning to secure the win.
"We showed a lot of fight in coming back," Head Coach Brian Kolze said after the game. "Unfortunately, we gave it right back."
Vanessa Strong earned the start in the circle as she pitched 3.2 innings of one-hit ball. Strong allowed two runs during her third outing of the season and recorded two strikeouts.
Colorado State 8, Pacific 1
The Tigers trailed 4-0 after four innings of play despite having scoring opportunities. Carly Lucchetti got the Tigers on the board in the fifth inning as she led off with a single up the middle, her second hit of the game.
After swiping second base and reaching third on a Scully ground out, Lucchetti scored the Tigers' lone run on a Nina Davis RBI sacrifice fly.
Lucchetti finished the game with three hits, increasing her team-leading batting average to .333.
"Not a good game on all fronts," Kolze said. "I told the team they need to flush it and not dwell on it so we can come out stronger tomorrow."
Pacific returns to action at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, as it takes on CSUN on the final day of the CBU Classic.
