RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Pacific softball team concluded the CBU Classic with a win, defeating CSUN, 4-0, Sunday morning at Jim C. Funk Stadium.
"This was a great way to finish off the weekend." Head coach
Brian Kolze said. "Our hitting was timely, and our defense did a great job."
Amiyah Aponte earned the start in the circle and shined as she threw a seven-inning complete game and allowed just two hits. In her third start of the season, Aponte picked up her first win and kept the Matadors (5-5) hitless through 5.1 innings while recording one strikeout.
The Tigers (2-7) took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning as
Carly Lucchetti lined a single to center field. After advancing to third base on a fielding error by the centerfielder, Lucchetti tallied the game's first run on a
Delaney Scully RBI sacrifice bunt.
A three-run sixth inning solidified the win for the Tigers as
Jordan Hayes and
Talissa Montez notched RBI singles.
Kyla Eck struck out swinging later in the inning but reached first base on a wild pitch, plating Hayes to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
Pacific returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 25, as it takes on Nevada in a doubleheader at Bill Simoni Field.
