PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pacific volleyball team (16-9,8-5 WCC) earned the 3-0 sweep over Portland (8-18, 3-11 WCC) on Thursday night, to tally its eighth sweep of the season. The Tigers defeated Portland 25-18, 25-14, 25-22 as they kick off their weekend trip through the Pacific Northwest.
The Tigers opened the night hitting .375 in the first set, collecting 15 kills off 32 attempts and 3 errors. They recorded three aces to capture the first set 25-18.
The offense cooled only slightly, as the Tigers hit .241 through the second set, collecting 11 kills on 29 attempts and four errors. The Pilots struggled to keep up with Pacific, hitting -.107 in the second set as they were swiftly downed 25-14.
Entering the third set, the Pilots entered survival mode, keeping toe-to-toe with the Tigers, until Pacific rattled off a 6-0 run to go up 16-12. The Pilots pulled within one, but Pacific outscored them 8-6 to end Portland's attempts at forcing a fourth set 25-22.
Senior
Alexa Edwards led the team in kills, notching 17 on the night. Portland as a team recorded 23 total kills on the night. Edwards hit .316 percent on 38 attempts and five errors, while also collecting two service aces and eight digs.
Junior
Jenna Heller continues her dominance at the crux of the Tigers offense, leading all players with 27 assists. The junior collected four kills on 10 attempts and no errors, while leading the team with ten digs.
Sophomore
Emily Van Groningen added eight kills, hitting .500 on 14 attempts and one error. She led the team with four blocks.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday afternoon as they take on Gonzaga. The match can be viewed on ESPN+ on Nov. 11 at noon.
