Pacific Cruises Past San Francisco 5-3 on Senior Night

Tigers score season-high five goals

STOCKTON, Calif.—It was a Senior Night to remember as Pacific women's soccer (9-9-1, 3-5 WCC) defeated San Francisco (6-9-3, 3-4-1 WCC), 5-3, on Saturday to end the 2023 season on a high note. In addition, the Tigers notched a season-high five goals.

"We scored some fantastic goals tonight and we just felt really good about the way we played," said co-head coach J.J. Wozniak. "Beyond thrilled for the seniors to finish their careers with this big win against USF here at home. They deserved it. They put so much work into their careers and they're all phenomenal players but even better people. It's great that we got to finish it out like this."

Before the game, Pacific honored Juliana Alexander, Lauren Frohan, Ryanne Molenaar, Jaida Nyby, Hana Rosenblatt and Laila Saravia.

The Dons started the scoring with a goal in the 11th minute. It didn't take long for the Tigers to respond as they tallied three straight goals within a 10-minutes span. Junior Aniela Jensen posted her first ever multi-goal performance on a career-high two goals while Frohan contributed one during the stretch.

San Francisco brought the game within one in the 23rd minute. Five minutes later, Nyby shot the ball through traffic and into the net to extend Pacific's lead, 4-2, in the 28th minute.

The goals in the second half wouldn't come till the 83rd minute after the Dons cut the score to one for the second time. A goal from Molenaar 45 seconds later put the icing on the cake to give the Tigers their ninth win of the season.

Alexander, who made her final start of her career in net, matched her career-high eight saves.

"I'm not going to say a successful season because I think we want to do more," said co-head coach Danesha Adams. "But it's still possible. Right? We're going in the right direction. We're doing the right things. Our younger players are getting better. They're growing, they're learning and it's allowing us to continue to build. And that's what we're looking forward to doing every single year."

Wozniak and Adams will need to replace four seniors next season. Saravia is the lone senior who will return to the squad. The Tigers also return two of their four top scorers in sophomores Alexis Pashales and Anaya Shelton along with freshman goalkeeper Libby Davy.
