STOCKTON, Calif—Pacific men's soccer (5-6-4, 1-3-1 WCC) concludes the 2023 season with back-to-back road games, beginning at defending West Coast Conference champion San Diego (9-4-3, 3-1-1 WCC) at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The Tigers picked up their first WCC win against Gonzaga, 3-1, this past Saturday. Fifth-year seniors
Samuel Saiz Herraiz and
Derick Roque scored in the contest. Saiz Herraiz led with two goals while Roque got his lone goal on a penalty kick. Redshirt junior
Joshua Moya and senior
Tanner Johnson combined for six saves.
Roque is having a tremendous season for Pacific. The South Gate, Calif., native leads the Tigers in scoring with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. In the West Coast Conference, Roque is second in goals (36th nationally) and third in points (42nd nationally). He is also second in points (1.5) and goals per game (0.6) in the league, both are also 26th and 28th in the country. Because of his performance, Roque was selected as one of the top 100 college players by Top College Drawer.
Moya has started in 12 games in net. The Gilroy, Calif., native has collected 42 saves while recording two shutouts. Moya is third in the WCC with 3.5 saves per game which is also ranked 66th in the country.
In the all-time series between Pacific and San Diego, the Toreros have a 6-3-0 advantage and won the last meeting, 2-0, at Knoles Field during the 2022 season. The Tigers last won in the series the year prior, 2-1, at Torero Stadium.
San Diego is currently tied with Santa Clara for first place in the WCC standing. The Toreros are third in the league in points (83), goals (25) and assists (33). San Diego's total assists are 24th in the country. Mason Tunbridge is the Toreros' scoring leader with 16 points on five goals and six assists. He is fourth in assists, fifth in points and sixth in goals in the WCC. Tunbridge's total assists are 61st nationally. Goalkeeper Luis Ludosan is third in the league with 36 saves and four shutouts.
Pacific concludes the season at Santa Clara at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.
