Pacific Earns Back-to-Back Wins in Golden State Hoops Jam After Defeating Mississippi Valley State

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team (4-3) went 2-0 in the Golden State Hoops Jam after defeating Mississippi Valley State (0-7) 68-65 in overtime. Three Tigers made the all-tournament team over the weekend, including one taking home tournament MVP.

Junior guard Lesown Hallums, Jr. led the Tigers with 15 points, shooting 6-13 from the floor. He collected three rebounds, two assists and two steals to elevate Pacific to another win at home. For his efforts, he earned the tournament MVP honor.

Junior guard Cam Denson added 12 points, shooting 6-8 from the floor. He led Pacific with nine rebounds. Senior forward Judson Martindale also scored 12 for the Tigers, netting 4-9 from the floor and 3-7 from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Moe Odum had a team leading 10 assists. Both Odum and Martindale were named to the all-tournament team.

The Tigers were aggressive shooting the three through the first twenty minutes of action, attempting 18 to MVSU's five. Entering today's contest, MVSU had allowed its opponents to shoot .340 from deep, putting the Tigers near the mark as they shot 6-18 in the first half.

The Delta Devils worked hard to keep up with the Tigers all afternoon. They were 7-15 from the floor through the first half and got to the line frequently. They hit 10-14 from the charity stripe. Pacific was 12-27 from the floor, which put the Tigers up nine heading into the break.

MVSU shot 53.6 percent from the floor in the second half, tying the game twice in regulation. A made three by the Delta Devils put the game at an even 58-58 with under a minute to go. Following a turnover by MVSU, the Tigers attempted another shot as time expired, but it didn't fall.

Hallums Jr. kickstarted overtime for the Tigers, but the Delta Devils would tie it two more times. MVSU claimed its first lead of the game with two minutes left. Denson put the Tigers up with a minute to go, before a turnover by the Delta Devils and a foul sent Odum to the line. With nine seconds left, Odum went 2-2 giving Pacific the three-point advantage. A last second heave by MVSU to tie the game and force double overtime fell short and the Tigers claimed their fourth win of the season.

Pacific returns to the Alex G. Spanos Center on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. as they host CSUN.
