MORAGA, Calif. - The Pacific volleyball team (18-10, 10-6 WCC) concluded its 2023 regular season and conference season finale falling to Saint Mary's (16-12, 10-6 WCC) 25-18, 25-18, 25-19. The Tigers end the season tied-fourth with the Gaels in the conference standings.
Saint Mary's got off to a hot start, hitting .406 in the first set, recording 15 kills on 32 attempts and 2 errors. A few series of runs by the Gaels put the Tigers down early on Saturday afternoon, as Saint Mary's took the first set by seven. Pacific notched 13 kills, while hitting .162.
The Gaels' offense cooled in the second set, but at the same time the Tigers' offense stagnated. Despite Pacific rattling off a 7-4 run at the end of the second set, Saint Mary's went up two sets to one.
In the third set, Pacific bounced back adding 12 kills, but Saint Mary's also hit .440, recording 14 kills on 25 attempts and three errors. The Tigers pulled within two at the end of the third set, but Saint Mary's outscored Pacific 5-2 to claim the final set 25-19.
Senior
Alexa Edwards led the Tigers with 11 kills, hitting .297 on 27 attempts and three errors. She recorded five digs and a solo block. Fifth year senior
Biamba Kabengele added 10 kills, hitting .222 on 27 attempts and four errors.
Junior
Jenna Heller led with 24 assists, 10 digs and three service aces. Senior
Darina Kumanova put up five kills and an ace. Sophomore
Emily Van Groningen led the team with two blocks.
