Pacific Earns 3-1 Victory Over Gonzaga on Senior Night

Saiz Herraiz led Tigers with two goals

STOCKTON, Calif.—Pacific men's soccer (5-6-4, 1-3-1 WCC) sent the seniors out on a high note with its first West Coast Conference win over Gonzaga (3-7-6, 1-3-1 WCC), 3-1, on Saturday.

Before the contest, the Tigers honored seniors Myles Hall, Cory Johnson, Tanner Johnson, Derick Roque, Samuel Saiz Herraiz and Samuel Villalta.

Pacific's three goals all came in the first half.

The Zags took the 1-0 early lead on a goal from Drew Pedersen in the eighth minute.

The Tigers gained momentum late in the first half, going on a scoring rampage. In the 21st minute, Roque found Saiz Herraiz in transition who then kicked the ball from the left side that hit the right post and into the net.

A foul was called on Gonzaga's Hudson Brunk in the 31st minute, giving Pacific a chance from the penalty. Roque scored in the box to extend the Tigers' lead, 2-1.

Saiz Herraiz tallied his second and final goal for Pacific in the 34th minute off the assist from sophomore Jose Maria Barrera.

The Tigers took 12 shots and six in net compared to the Zags' 13 overall and six on target. Pacific also had a 6-2 advantage in corner opportunities.

Johnson, who made his first appearance in goal, and redshirt junior Joshua Moya combined for six saves.

"Very happy for the seniors to end their home careers on a high note," said head coach Adam Reeves. "Our reaction to going a goal down was fantastic. Scoring three goals in the first half is an achievement for the group."

Up next, the Tigers round out the season with two road games. First up is at San Diego at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.
