Dominant Final Sets Lead Tigers to Victory on the Road Over Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Pacific volleyball team (13-8, 5-4 WCC) bounced back into the win column in dominant fashion, earning a 3-1 victory over Santa Clara (9-12, 1-8 WCC) on the road, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 25-13.

The Tigers hit .338 on the day, their second highest hitting percentage of the year as a team. Their season-high came at home against Santa Clara in September, when they hit .376 through three sets.

Pacific jumped out to the 1-0 set lead, but the Broncos had no plans to be swept by the Tigers again and captured the second set, 25-21. The Tigers responded by hitting .417 in the third set, swiftly moving to the 25-17 win to head into the fourth up 2-1. They easily put the Broncos away in the fourth set, hitting .375 to capture the match win after beating Santa Clara 25-13 in the final set.

Fifth-year senior Biamba Kabengele led the team with 19 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. She notched two service aces and nine digs en route to the Tiger victory at Santa Clara.

Seniors Alexa Edwards and Darina Kumanova elevated the Tiger attack, combining for 27 kills. Senior Ramonni Cook added 11 kills of her own, while hitting a team leading .526 on 19 attempts.

Junior Jenna Heller orchestrated the Tiger offense, recording 49 assists on the day, just two short of her season high. She collected two service aces and a kill to help facilitate the Tigers' dominance in the third and fourth sets.

Freshman Zoe Morales took charge of Pacific's defense, collecting 11 digs on the day. Kumanova and Heller helped her solidify it, combining for 21 digs, as they both made their way to double-doubles. Cook and Edwards built up the defensive stronghold, combining for eight total blocks, but it was Heller that put the match away with the final block of the fourth set.

The Tigers return to action next Saturday at noon as they host Loyola Marymount at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
