STOCKTON, Calif. – Putting a bow on the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational and the fall portion of the 2023-24 season, the Pacific men's golf team earned a 13th-place finish Wednesday at The Reserve at Spanos Park. The Tigers completed the final round with a one-under 287 and finished the tournament with a two-over 866 (282-297-287).
"We didn't play as well as we were hoping," said Pacific head coach
John Cook on the team's overall play. "There's a lot of positives we're going to build off from this fall season and carry into the spring next February."
Grand Canyon secured the first-place team finish with a 37-under 827 (275-278-274). The Tigers had three golfers stand in the top half of the player leaderboard, which featured 99 players.
Freshman
Carlos Astiazaran led the pack for the Tigers at the end of the tournament, shooting a four-under 212 (71-71-70) and positioning in 27th place.
Senior
Alex Barclay ended in a tie for 28th place after registering a three-under 213 (67-75-71).
Sophomore
Timothy Jung wrapped up the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational with an even-par 216 (72-71-73), standing in a tie for 41st place.
Rounding out the team scoring, senior
Petr Janik shot a nine-over 225 (77-75-73) and sophomore
Ian Fritz tallied a 14-over 230 (77-77-76). Janik scored his first eagle of the season on hole 11.
In individual scoring, fifth-year senior
Maverick Pavletich carried over his success from yesterday, finishing the third round with a one-under 71 to collect a two-over 218 (77-70-71) across the tournament. Freshman
Samuel Pampling compiled in the third round a one-over 73, marking a ten-over 226 (79-74-73). Junior
Daniel Henely earned a 20-over 236 (80-80-76) while senior
Haakon Mathiesen posted a 44-over 260 (85-91-84).
Pacific concluded the first half of the season and will continue play on Thursday, Feb. 8, as the Tigers compete in the Amer Ari Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii.
