Women’s Soccer Hosts Gonzaga; Travels to Saint Mary’s

Tigers host Zags for Family, Pink and Alumni Night

STOCKTON, Calif.—Pacific women's soccer (7-7-1, 1-3 WCC) is back in action this week with one home and road match. The Tigers host Gonzaga for Family, Pink and Alumni Night at 7 p.m. on Wednesday before traveling to Saint Mary's for a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday.
 
This past Saturday, Pacific fell to #14 Santa Clara by a score of 5-1 during Homecoming and Family Weekend. Sophomore Mira Scarsella registered the first goal of her career off an assist from junior Aniela Jensen.
 
The Tigers' scoring offense (1.8) is 83rd in the country. Pacific has scored a 94th-ranked 74 points with 54 of them coming from goals scored (79th nationally).
 
Fifth-year senior Jaida Nyby is Pacific's leading scorer with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. The Eugene, Ore. native ranks fifth in goals and eighth in points in the West Coast Conference. Nyby's total goals are 82nd in the country.
 
The Tigers also have three other double-figure scorers in sophomore Alexis Pashales (14 points on six goals and two assists), sophomore Anaya Shelton (11 points on four goals and three assists) and fifth-year senior Lauren Frohan (10 points on four goals and two assists).
 
Senior goalkeeper Juliana Alexander has seen action in the last three games. The Bakersfield, Calif. native made 19 saves this season and recorded her first league shutout at San Diego on Oct. 7.
 
Pacific is facing two teams who recently played each other in their last contest. Saint Mary's handed Gonzaga its first league loss of the season on a 1-0 upset.
 
The Zags are tied for second in the WCC, boasting a 3-1 league record. Gonzaga leads the conference in scoring with 125 points (8.9 per game) and 44 goals (3.1 per game). In national stats, the Zags rank in the top 10 in points per game (6th), total goals (7th), and total points (9th).
 
Gonzaga has six different scorers in double figures. Giana Riley leads the Zags with 23 points on nine goals and five assists. She is the leader in the WCC in points (32nd nationally) while second in goals (36th nationally). Riley is also 21st and 33rd in the country in points per game (1.6) and goals per game (0.6). Kelsey Oyler is the WCC and Gonzaga's assist leader. Nationally, she is second with 0.8 assists per game and fourth with 11 total assists.
 
In the net, Lauren Towne is currently in second with 41 saves and fourth with four shutouts in the league.
 
Two of the Zags' WCC victories came in shutouts against San Diego and San Francisco. Gonzaga also defeated Cal Poly, 4-1, in non-conference play.
 
Pacific is tied with Saint Mary's for seventh in the conference standings. The Gaels are second in the WCC in saves, having notched a total of 83. Goalkeeper Taylor Poland is second in the conference with 4.6 saves per game and made a fifth-best 47 stops in net. Her saves per game are ranked 90th in the country.
 
For the Saint Mary offense, Briana Salvetti leads the Gaels with 20 points (58th nationally) and eight goals (49th nationally), both ranked third in the WCC. In addition to notching a team-leading four assists.
 
In non-conference, Saint Mary's lost to UC Irvine on a score of 2-1 and picked up a 6-3 victory over Eastern Washington. The Gaels also played UC Santa Barbara to a 0-0 draw.
 
Next week, the Tigers travel to take on Loyola Marymount at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
