Long Beach, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team competed in its first spring season competition, traveling south to Long Beach State for the Beach Tennis Winter Invite.
With the start of the doubles matches on Friday, Tiger fans got the first glimpse at possible doubles pairings for the season. Tomi Main/Alexis Sam, Danielle Zamora/Karina Chao, Megan Carmichael/Olivia Wiese and Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle/Zara Fung made up the double's pairings for the Invitational on Friday. MiaAngelina Ruja competed in doubles with Louise Wikander from the University of Denver.
The pairing of Zamora/Chao won their doubles match 6-3 over Driscoll/Simonov of Denver. Ruja and Wikander defeated Carmichael/Wiese 6-3 in a Pacific-on-Pacific matchup.
Chao led the Tigers in singles on Friday, defeating her Long Beach State opponent 6-1, 6-0. Carmichael 6-0, 6-7(7), 7-6(5), Main 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-1 and Clydesdale-Eberle 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, all went to three sets but eventually fell.
Chao continued her strong tournament on Saturday, defeating fellow WCC opponent Hana Gamracy 7-6(3), 6-4. Carmichael again went three sets with a win over Azaria Hayes of San Francisco 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
On Sunday, Chao wrapped up her Invitational undefeated in singles action, defeating Caroline Driscoll 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
