Volleyball Earns Straight-Set Victory Over Eastern Illinois

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Pacific volleyball team wrapped up its east coast tour, earning a 25-14, 25-17, 25-15 straight-set victory over Eastern Illinois on the final day of the Windy City Invitational.

The Tigers (3-3) cruised through the first set, jumping out to an early 12-4 lead en route to the 11-point win. Alexa Edwards was the lone member to record double-digit kills, tallying 17 on 40 attempts. Edwards, who has added at least 10 kills in all matches this season, is the first player in the West Coast Conference to register 100 kills. In six matches this season, the junior from Sacramento, Calif., has tallied 105 kills, 35 clear of the next closest player.

Jenna Heller continues to shine on the offensive side of the ball, as she tallied 30 assists in a match for the sixth-straight contest. Heller, who has 477 assists to start the season, leads the conference in assists per set with 11.06.

The Tigers quickly made it through the following two sets as the Panthers (2-4) could not gain any momentum. Despite falling behind early in the second set, 2-0, the Tigers rattled off 13 of the following 16 points to gain an advantage midway through the set. The team quickly put away the Panthers in the final set, recording 10 of the match's final 11 points to secure the straight-set victory.

Defensively, Jadyn Tubbs continues to be the staple for the Tigers, as she recorded 17 digs to lead the team. The team set a season-high in blocks, recording six as Sedona Sherman and Emily Van Groningen each recorded a solo block while also helping force the Panthers into 22 attack errors.

"We passed at a high-level today and were able to run a balanced attack," Head Coach Greg Gibbons stated. "We played hard and had a great team win ... we will continue to improve and prepare for our next match against New Mexico."

Pacific returns to action on Friday, Sept. 9, as the Tigers face off against New Mexico in the UC San Diego Tournament in La Jolla, Calif., at 12:30 p.m.
