FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Pacific men's golf team kicked off the fall portion of the 2022-23 season Monday morning as the Tigers finished the first two rounds of the Ram Masters Invitational in eighth place, posting a 12-over-par 572 at the Fort Collins Country Club. Hosts Colorado State flew up the leaderboard in the second round and leads the 15-team field with a six-under 554.
Petr Janik recorded a team-low score of three-under 137 and is tied for fifth place out of 84 golfers. Janik, who tallied seven of the team's 31 birdies, shot a one-under 69 in the first round before posting a two-under 68 as he only bogeyed four times in 36 holes.
"Petr played great all day," Head Coach
John Cook stated after the second round. "He had a solid round this morning and was steady all day … he had a chip-in birdie on the last hole of the day, which was pretty special."
Maverick Pavletich bounced back from a tough four-over 74 in the first round, recovering with a three-under 67 second round to finish the first day of competition tied for 19th place with a one-over 141. Pavletich tallied four second-round birdies and was one of four players in the top-20 to record one bogey or less in the second round.
Leonardo Rigamonti and newcomers
Ian Fritz and
Timothy Jung performed well in the early stages of the first round before struggling towards the end of the day. Fritz and Rigamonti finished the first two rounds eight-over 148, while Jung recorded a 10-over 150.
"We plan to keep climbing up the leaderboard," Cook continued. "We got off to a slow start this morning, but we battled back all day and are in a good position to move up tomorrow."
Pacific returns to action as the final round of the Ram Masters Invitational tees off tomorrow at 8:06 a.m. MT / 7:06 a.m. PT.
