STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon, dropping an 11-0 West Coast Conference decision to BYU at Bill Simoni Field.
Hannah Glad earned back-to-back starts for the second time this season and had a tremendous first two innings of work. Glad kept the ball in the field of play through the game's first two innings, only allowing one baserunner in the process. However, the Tigers (12-37, 2-12) fell behind in the third as a three-run home run by Violet Zavodnik put the Cougars (38-10, 10-2) on top.
The Cougars tallied runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pull away and solidify the shutout victory.
Carly Lucchetti led Pacific again offensively, tallying two of the team's three hits. Lucchetti finished the three-game series with four hits, increasing her team-leading batting average to .353. The senior from Linden, Calif., finished the season with career highs in multiple categories, including batting average, hits, and stolen bases.
"I was happy with our approach at the plate," Head Coach
Brian Kolze stated. "I thought we had some good at-bats against a solid pitcher, but it got away from us against an outstanding hitting team." "Despite the outcome, I was proud of how they finished and showed no fear … they battled and stuck together until the end."
Pacific concluded the 2022 season with a sixth-place finish in the West Coast Conference standings and will look to improve heading into next season.
