STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers and Toreros battled back and forth in a close game. San Diego scored four runs in the final two innings to take the 9-6 win.
Jacob Weiss and Thomas Gavello both homered. Weiss brought in three runs, and Gavello brought in two. Chase Graves had two hits, including a triple, and Jeremy Lea scored twice. Chaz Myers walked twice.
Marv Guarin started the game and pitched four innings, striking out two and allowing only four hits. Nick Swanson pitched two innings in relief, and Elijah Birdsong made his first relief appearance, pitching one inning. Hunter Schilperoort and Caden Duke both had scoreless appearances.
Gavello got the Tigers on the board early, hitting his 11th home run to put the Tigers up 2-0. The Toreros tied the game up in the top of the second and set the stage for what would be a wild game.
The Tigers took the lead once again in the bottom of the third as James Arakawa scored on a wild pitch. San Diego took the lead in the top of the fifth with a home run and a sac fly. The Toreros added another run to the lead in the top of the seventh with an RBI single.
Weiss hit his third home run in three games to retake the lead for the Tigers driving in three runs. In the top of the eighth inning, the Toreros responded with a three-run home run to jump ahead of the Tigers again. In the top of the ninth, the Toreros were looking to blow the game open, but Jarron Silva robbed a home run down the right-field line, timing his jump perfectly to bring it back. San Diego did score once in the ninth, and the Tigers could not make anything happen in the ninth as San Diego secured the win.
The two teams will finish the series tomorrow. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. The team's seniors will be honored prior to the game. The ceremony is scheduled to start at 12:10 p.m.
