Tigers Fall in High Scoring Game One

SAN FRANCISCO – The Tigers could not keep an early lead as the Dons scored eight runs in the first three innings to take the 8-5 win. 

Chase Graves and James Arakawa both had two hits for the Tigers. Jeremy Lea and Brandon Motheral both drove in two runs. Motheral and Chaz Myers hit doubles. Arakawa and Myers both walked twice. 

Marv Guarin started the game, pitching 2.1 innings with two strikeouts and two walks. Elijah Birdsong made his second relief appearance of the season, pitching 5.1 innings in relief. Birdsong did not allow a hit or a run during his outing. 

The Tigers got the scoring started early, as Motheral doubled to right-center to bring Thomas Gavello and Arakawa home for Pacific. Jacob Weiss followed it up with a single to left field to bring Motheral in. The Dons took the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on five hits. 

San Francisco continued the scoring in the third, scoring three runs on four hits. Birdsong entered the game with two outs and shut down the Dons scoring. 

Jeremy Lea brought the Tigers closer in the top of the sixth inning with a two-RBI single to left field to cut the deficit to three runs. The Tigers had two runners on with no outs but could not bring home another run, recording three straight outs. 

The Tigers had runners on in the seventh and eighth inning but could not catch the Dons, falling in game one. 

The two teams will be back at it tomorrow. The first pitch will once again be at 1 p.m.
