Jeremy Lea Walks it Off as Tigers Sweep Gaels

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers used a furious late-inning comeback to complete a sweep of the Tigers. The Tigers scored three runs in the final two innings to take the 7-6 win.

Jarron Silva had two hits, scored twice, and drove in three runs. Silva and Jacob Weiss both hit home runs for the Tigers. Weiss had two hits and drove in two runs. Jeremy Lea had two hits, including the game-winning hit in the ninth.

Zach Patterson started the game for the Tigers, throwing five innings with two strikeouts and six hits allowed. Nick Swanson and Hunter Schilperoort had two strikeouts, and Schilperoort pitched 2.1 innings of one-hit baseball to lock down the win.

The Gaels got on the board first, with a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead. Jacob Weiss responded in the bottom of the fourth inning with a moonshot to left field that still has not landed. Saint Mary's extended the lead in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly to move the lead back to three.

Jarron Silva hit a bomb to right to tie the game at four in the bottom of the fifth. The Gaels retook the lead in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs on a single to left-center.

Lea cut the Gael's lead to one to start the eighth with an RBI single down the left-field line. Weiss followed it up with a double to left field; the left fielder misplayed the ball and allowed Lea to score the tying run.

After Schilperoort kept the Gaels off the board in the top of the ninth, it gave the Tigers a chance to finish the game in the bottom of the ninth. With runners on second and third, the Gaels intentionally walked Silva to load the bases and bring up Lea. Lea drove a pitch to left-center that a diving left fielder could not grab and brought the winning run home.

"I was looking for something up," says Lea. "I knew with the bases loaded they were going to give me something to hit, so I took the first fastball I did not want to change anything. Just looking for something up and he left it there and I put a good swing on it."

The Tigers host San Diego next weekend for a three-game series.
