Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's tennis team (8-9, 0-4) just missed out on its bid for a WCC win at home Saturday, falling to Saint Mary's, 4-3, at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
In the match, Pacific picked up the doubles win by capturing the #2 and #3 flights.
Danielle Zamora and
Megan Carmichael won at #3 doubles, 6-4. With a loss at #1 doubles,
Alexis Sam and
Maile Brilhante rallied for a 7-6 (7-4) victory to earn the match's first point.
Klara Kosan then won at #1 singles, 6-4, 6-4, over #43 Mariia Kozyreva.
Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle fell at #3 singles, losing the second set in a tiebreaker, 6-0, 7-6 (7-3).
Alexis Sam dropped at 6-2, 6-1 decision at #5 singles. The match was tied 2-2 with three singles battles on the court.
Danielle Zamora won at #4 singles, 6-1, 6-3, to pull the Tigers within one point of a win. Saint Mary's rallied to win the last two matches to take the contest.
MiaAngelina Ruja dropped a three-set decision at #2 singles, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1, and
Megan Carmichael fell at #6 singles, 7-5, 6-2
"It was a tough loss to a talent Saint Mary's squad," said head coach
Mike Erwin. "After winning the doubles point, it came down to the wire in the singles and just came up a bit short. Hopefully, we can build on the experience."
The Tigers remain home for more WCC action next week, hosting Gonzaga at 1 p.m. Friday and Portland at 11 a.m. Saturday.
