STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning and four runs in the eighth inning on the way to a 12-7 win over Loyola Marymount.
Chaz Myers had three hits and six RBI, including the game-winning RBI in the fifth inning. All three of his hits were extra-base hits.
Telly Hill had three hits and scored two runs.
Jarron Silva drove in two runs. Four Tigers had multiple hits.
Zach Patterson gave up only four hits and struck out two in four innings pitched.
Jackson Vaughan recorded the win with 1.2 innings pitched and three strikeouts.
Hunter Schilperoort recorded his seventh save of the season, pitching two innings.
The Tigers scored four in the first, capped off by a
Ben Nemivant double to left-center. The Lions put two on the board in the top of the second to close the gap. Loyola Marymount scored again in the fourth on a Tiger wild pitch before taking the lead in the fifth, scoring off two doubles to go up 5-4.
Myers responded with a two-RBI triple to left-center to help the Tigers retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Silva brought Myers home to get an insurance run-in for the Tigers. In the sixth inning, the Lions hit a home run to make it a one-run game and threatened to score more, with runners on second and third with one out. Head Coach
Chris Rodriguez made a move to bring in Vaughan, and it paid off, with Vaughan striking out two straight Lions to keep the Tiger lead.
"We have a motto of keep the line moving," says Myers. "I think two out RBIs are a big thing that contribute to wins. If you get two out RBIs more times than not you will win the game."
To put the game away, the Tigers added one more run in the sixth before scoring four runs in the eighth. Myers hit a three-RBI double to bring his total to six on the day, which is the most by a single Tiger hitter this season.
The Tigers are Lions are back at Klein Family Field tomorrow to decide the series. The first pitch will be at 1 p.m.
