STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers outhit the Lions but could not drive the runners in, falling 7-3 in the series' opening game.
James McClenaghan led the Tigers with three hits, including a double.
Chaz Myers,
Jeremy Lea and
Brandon Motheral all drove in runs. Motheral hit his fifth home run of the season in the loss. Seven Tigers hitters had a hit, with five having multiple hits.
Hunter Hayes pitched 5.1 innings with four strikeouts. The Tigers pitching staff walked only one Lions batter.
Loyola Marymount started the scoring, bringing one run home in the second before adding four more in the third inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Motheral hit a towering home run in the bottom of the fifth down the right-field line to get the Tigers on the board.
The Lions scored again in the sixth inning and once in the seventh to reach seven total runs for the game. Myers singled in the sixth to bring home
Ben Nemivant to bring the score back to 6-2. Lea singled in the seventh to keep the Lion's lead at four, but with 11 runners left on base, the Tigers could not capitalize on their opportunities in the loss.
Tomorrow's first pitch will be at 3 p.m. as the Tigers look to even up the series.
