UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Members of the Pacific Men's Golf team traveled to the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational this week, where they didn't just take on 23 other teams; they also took on the weather at Chambers Bay.
The site of the 2015 US Open was not kind to participants on the first day of competition, and play was canceled.
"It was a tough battle," said Head Coach
John Cook. "Conditions were unlike anything we have seen in a long time. It was unfortunate not to finish the round a little better, but we will learn from this and be ready to go in a few weeks at BYU."
The 18-hole third round took place on Tuesday and was the only holes participants would be able to count.
Pacific ended the event tied for 17th with George Washington, scoring 309.
Senior
Riley Killip, an Olympia, Washington native, had the best score for the Tigers with a +4 on the par-71 course, maybe thanks to his home-state advantage.
"It was great being back up in the Pacific Northwest at a course where I have some experience," said Killip. "Chambers Bay is a special place, and although it would have been nice to have played 54 holes for the event, 18 is better than none. I had some family come out and watch, which made it even more special. I'm very happy we had a stop on the schedule here during my last college golf season."
Junior
Maverick Pavletich wasn't too far behind with a 77, and junior
Leonardo Rigamonti shot a 78.
Boise State finished first with a 287 total score.
The team travels to Utah for the BYU Invitational April 22-23.
