FRESNO, Calif.: The Tigers battled back, scoring two runs in the ninth to escape with the 8-7 victory over Fresno State on Tuesday evening.
Ben Nemivant had a huge game, with three hits, three RBI and a home run, all numbers to lead the team. Brandon Motheral and James McClenaghan both had two hits. Motheral scored two runs. Jarron Silva drove in two runs on a hit. Thomas Gavello hit a double.
The Tigers continued the midweek bullpen game. Marv Guarin started the game, pitching two innings with two strikeouts. Caden Duke and Jon Fortner both struck out two Bulldogs batters. Jackson Ertz recorded the win, and Hunter Schilperoort shut the door for his sixth save of the season.
It was all Tigers early, as Silva brought two runs home in the third inning to give the Tigers an early lead. Pacific doubled its lead in the fourth inning as Nemivant brought two runs in with a home run to left field.
The Bulldogs responded in the sixth with a two-run home run to left before taking the lead in the seventh with a three-run home run down the left-field line.
Down two heading into the final two frames, Telly Hill continued his hot streak, driving in a Tigers run before Nemivant brought in his third run of the game to even the score.
A Bulldog error in the ninth proved fatal, allowing two Tigers to score and take a late lead. Fresno State homered in the bottom of the ninth but could not find that final run as the Tigers secured the win.
This weekend, the Tigers are back home hosting Loyola Marymount in a three-game series.
