Broncos Down Tigers in Extra Innings

STOCKTON, Calif. – Sometimes, nine innings is not enough to decide the winner. The Tigers and Broncos battled for 10 innings before Santa Clara used a four-run 10th inning to win 9-6.

Jarron Silva led the Tigers with two hits and three RBI. Brandon Motheral drove in two runs on one hit and scored a run. Jacob Weiss scored three runs and walked twice. Weiss also hit his second home run of the season.

Zach Patterson started the game for the Tigers, pitching 6.0 innings with three strikeouts while only walking one and allowing three runs. Jackson Vaughan pitched 2.1 innings with two strikeouts while giving up one hit.

Santa Clara got on the board first, scoring in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the third. Silva brought in a run with an RBI single to tie the game. Motheral followed that with an opposite-field, two-run home run to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.

The Broncos tied the game in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on back-to-back hits before taking the lead in the seventh off a Tiger error.

Sliva responded in the bottom of the seventh, driving in two more runs with a double to right-center to give the Tigers the lead once again.

Santa Clara tied the game in the top of the eighth inning before taking the lead for good in the top of the tenth, scoring four runs on three hits.

In the tenth, Weiss hit a home run to bring the Tigers back within three. A Chaz Myers walk got another Tiger on, but the Broncos were able to get the third out and secure the series win.
