HENDERSON, Nev. – The Pacific Men's Golf Team finished round one of the WCC Championship Tournament in six-over-par with a 294, putting them in seventh place.
"The boys got off to a great start and held it together the best we could in difficult conditions on the back nine," said Head Coach
John Cook. "Overall, we are still right there and looking forward to the next couple of rounds."
Junior
Maverick Pavletich is tied for fifth overall with a one-under 71 in the first round. Senior
Riley Killip is tied for 11th with an even 72. Sophomore
Haakon Mathiesen sits tied for 18th with a plus-one 73. Junior
Leonardo Rigamonti is tied for 39th with a 78. Junior Griffon Long shot a +11 day and sits in 45th.
Pacific leads the tournament on par threes with an average of 3.10 and a score of +2. The team has 51 pars throughout round one, only three under the leader – Santa Clara – in that category.
Pavletich leads all players in par-threes averaging 2.50 and scoring -2. Mathiesen is tied for fourth, sitting even on the par threes with a 3.0 average. Pavletich is tied for fourth on the par-fours, sitting even, and Mathiesen and Killip are right behind at +1 on par-fours.
Killip is tied for sixth on overall pars with 12 and Rigamonti is right behind with 11. Long has 10. Pavletich is tied for second with five birdies in the first round.
The nine-team tournament is close in score after the first round.
