LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pacific softball team wrapped up its first West Coast Conference road series Sunday morning, falling to Loyola Marymount, 4-2, at Smith Field.
The Tigers (11-31, 1-7) fell behind early and trailed the Lions (31-14, 8-1), 4-0, before getting on the board in the sixth inning. After an
Emily Budelli two-out walk,
Carly Lucchetti followed with the team's lone hit, a single to center field. Due to a diving attempt from the center fielder, Morgan DeBord, and an error, Budelli scored from first base, and with the ball still in play, Lucchetti raced around the basepath to record the Tigers' second run of the game.
Vanessa Strong earned the start in the circle for the Tigers and pitched three innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Strong finished her outing with one strikeout, increasing her team-leading season total to 68. In her last three appearances, the senior from Oakley, Calif., has only allowed two earned runs in six innings pitched against the Lions.
Pacific returns to action on Wednesday, April 27, as the Tigers take on Stanford in a non-conference contest at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
