Softball Falls to Nationally-Ranked Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – The Pacific softball team dropped its final non-conference game of the season, falling to nationally ranked Stanford, 4-0, Wednesday evening at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium.

The Tigers (11-32) fell behind early as the Cardinal (32-13) scored runs in the first two innings of play. Hannah Glad earned her sixth start in the circle of the season and pitched 1.2 solid innings, allowing one earned run on two hits.

Avery Croxall entered the game in the second inning, relieving Glad, and completed 1.1 innings for another strong outing. For the 10th time this season, Croxall finished an outing of at least one inning without allowing an earned run. The sophomore from Pleasant Grove, Calif., also tallied one strikeout, increasing her season total to 29.

Vanessa Strong and Bethany Hammer closed out the game's final three innings, allowing just one run on four hits.

Carly Lucchetti led the offense as she tallied two hits for her 13th multi-hit game this season. Lucchetti's first hit came in the fourth inning, reaching on an infield single, and recorded a double to left-center field in the top of the sixth inning. Recording her fifth double of the season in tonight's contest, the senior from Linden, Calif., has now tallied 34 extra-base hits in her career, the most on the team.

Rian Dirmeyer, Marissa Fabian, and Bethany Hammer also contributed to the Tigers' offensive efforts, each recording a hit against the Cardinal.

"I was proud of how we played tonight," Head Coach Brian Kolze stated after the game. "We did not play well last week at LMU, and we saw a completely different team take the field tonight." "The energy was great, our at-bats were tremendous, and I love how they competed."

Pacific returns to action on Saturday, April 30, as the Tigers travel to take on Saint Mary's in the season's final West Coast Conference road doubleheader. Game one of the doubleheader at Cottrell Field is scheduled for noon.
