Tigers Fall in Final Game Against Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - The final game of the series was a low-scoring battle, as the two teams were close throughout. Portland used a two-run seventh inning to escape the Tigers and complete the sweep 5-3.

Ben Nemivant went four for four to lead the Tigers, including a double and scoring a run. Brandon Motheral had two hits and drove in a run for the Tigers. Jeremy Lea came back to the lineup with a hit and an RBI.

Zach Patterson started the game for the Tigers, pitching 6.1 innings while striking out three. Jackson Vaughan finished the game, pitching 1.2 innings with one strikeout and no hits.

The Pilots struck first, scoring once in the bottom of the second to take the lead. The Tigers tied the game up in the top of the third. Motheral reached on an error by the catcher, which allowed Thomas Gavello to score and tie the game.

The Pilots would take the lead for good in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs on three hits, including a home run. The Tigers responded in the fifth, as Motheral was involved again, singling to right field to bring Gavello in again and make it a one-run game.

The Pilots hit their second home run in the seventh, increasing the lead to three. Lea drove in a run in the top of the eighth for the Tigers to make it a two-run game. The Tigers were able to get the go-ahead run to the plate in the ninth with one out, but the Portland pitching staff locked in and shut them down, striking out the final two Tiger batters.

Next week, the Tigers are back on the road, heading to Berkley to play Cal on Tuesday. The first pitch will be at 6:05.
