Tigers Fall in Tight Game with Pilots

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Tigers battled with the Pilots Saturday afternoon; Portland used a three-run fourth inning to take the second game of the series 5-3.

Thomas Gavello hit his eighth home run of the season, which leads the team. Brandon Motheral and James McClenaghan had two hits, and McClenaghan hit a double. Jacob Weiss hit a double. Ben Nemivant drove in a run as well.

Elijah Birdsong started the game and pitched 1.2 innings with one hit allowed and one strikeout. Marv Guarin pitched 5.1 innings with six strikeouts and six hits allowed. Hunter Schilperoort pitched a scoreless final inning with two strikeouts.

The Pilots got on the Tigers in the first inning with a home run to right-center. The Pilots scored again in the third and then put up three runs in the fourth inning with small ball, not getting an extra-base hit in the inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Gavello put the Tigers on the board in the top of the sixth, homering to left-center. Nemivant drove in a run in the top of the seventh with a single through the right side to bring McClenaghan in to score. Jarron Silva scored two batters later, stealing home when Nemivant was picked off.

The Tigers had runners on in the top of the eighth and ninth innings but could not bring them in to score, falling 5-3. The team will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow. The first pitch will be at 1 p.m.
