Tigers Fall to Hornets in Back and Forth Battle

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers battled the Hornets for the second time in a high-scoring battle. The Hornets scored at least one run in each of the final three innings to take the 13-6 win.

Brandon Motheral led the Tigers with three hits and one run scored. Jacob Weiss and Jarron Silva both drove in two runs for the Tigers, Weiss had two hits, and Silva hit a home run. James Arakawa scored two runs.

It was a bullpen game for the Tigers. Nick Swanson started the game and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one run and striking out three. The Tigers used eight pitchers in the nine-inning game and four pitched more than one inning.

The Tigers got on the board first, as Weiss brought in Arakawa with an RBI single to center field. The Hornets tied the game in the third and took the lead in the fourth on a Tigers error.

Jarron Silva tied the game back up in the fourth with a two-run home run into the Tiger's bullpen. Sacramento State scored three times in the fifth to retake the lead. James McClenaghan kept the Tigers in striking distance in the bottom of the sixth with a single to right-center to bring home Telly Hill

The Hornets extended the lead in the top of the seventh before the Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh. Arakawa scored on a wild pitch, and Weiss brought in his second RBI with a single to left field.

The Tigers were within one but did not get any closer, as the Hornets scored twice in the eighth inning and four times in the ninth to pull away and secure the win.

This weekend, the Tigers are back in WCC action, traveling to Portland for a three-game series.
