STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers finished the weekend series with Gonzaga in the lowest scoring matchup of the weekend. Three solo home runs handled the scoring for the Tigers, but the Bulldogs finished the sweep with a 5-3 win.
Thomas Gavello,
Brandon Motheral and
James McClenaghan all hit solo home runs for the Tigers. They each had two hits as well.
Chaz Myers and
Jarryd Wood also had hits for the Tigers.
After a long weekend,
Zach Patterson stepped up for the Tigers, pitching 6.0 innings while allowing five runs.
Hunter Schilperoort pitched the final three innings and struck out two.
Gonzaga once again got out early, scoring twice in the first inning to take the lead. Motheral hit a no-doubt home run to right field in the second inning to make it a one-run game. Two more runs in the fourth and a run in the sixth helped the Bulldogs pull away 5-1.
Gavello hit a long home run in the eighth inning to dead center after just missing a home run earlier in the game; his fifth of the season gave him back the team lead. McClenaghan's first home run of the season came in the ninth, sailing over the tall left-field wall. Two strikeouts and a flyout ended the Tiger's ninth.
The Tigers are on the road next weekend, heading to Malibu to take on Pepperdine in a three-game set.
