Tigers Prepare for WCC Tournament

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers head to Las Vegas for the WCC Tournament held at the Orleans Arena. The Tigers will play the #7 seed, Santa Clara, on Thursday, Mar. 3 at 2 p.m. The Tigers are the #10 seed heading into the tournament after finishing with a 6-22 record.

The Tiger's most recent win in the WCC tournament was against Santa Clara in the 2019-20 season when they faced them in the second round and won 76-60. The Tigers have had six wins in the tournament since 2014, including a trip to the semifinals in 2018 as the number seven seed. The highest seed the Tigers have been in the tournament was #3 in 2014 and 2015.

The Tigers will play Santa Clara on Thursday and, with a win, will play #6 seed, San Diego, on Friday.

The Tigers finished the regular season with three players averaging double-digit points. Freshman Anaya James leads the team at 13.7 points per game. Freshman Elizabeth Elliott is second at 12.6 points per game, and sophomore Liz Smith is third at 10.7 points per game.

Along with leading the team in points, James led the Tigers in minutes, assists and steals. Elliott led the Tigers in rebounding, field goal percentage, and double-doubles.

Sam Ashby and Jordan Cruz will lead the Tigers from beyond the arc in this tournament. Both made over 35 threes in the regular season, and they are both top three in three-point percentage.

The Tigers split the season series with the Broncos, with both teams winning on their home courts. Elliott led the Tigers with 18 points in the win, but James stole the show. With 13 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, James recorded the first triple-double of her career.
